Dr. Timothy S. Davis Expands Patient Base in South Florida, Provides More Patients Access to Minimally Invasive Laser Gum Surgery

Monday, December 29th, 2014

Naples, FL (PRWEB) December 15, 2014

Periodontist Dr. Timothy S. Davis continues to expand his patient base in order to provide patients throughout South Florida with easier access to a minimally invasive alternative for treating gum disease. The LANAP® protocol employs sophisticated laser technology to reduce periodontal infection without cutting or suturing.

Dr. Davis belongs to a select group of dental professionals who have completed the training required to perform LANAP®. Since only one percent of dentists in the country currently offer the procedure, many people do not live in close proximity to a LANAP® certified provider. Although Dr. Davis still provides traditional periodontal disease treatments like scaling and root planing as well as osseous surgery, he has found LANAP® to be more comprehensive in nature during the four years he has performed the procedure. Because of the laser’s ability to target and vaporize only the diseased tissue and bacteria, Dr. Davis is able to preserve more of the soft tissue and bone while eliminating/minimizing the bacterial load.

While laser gum surgery achieves similar results to flap and osseous surgery, LANAP® offers several advantages over those traditional procedures. Since the procedure is minimally invasive and does not require incisions or sutures, patients experience significantly less pain, bleeding, and swelling. Unlike traditional surgery, which can create recession, a laser gum surgery procedure does not result in gum recession. In addition to increased sensitivity, receding gums also pose a cosmetic concern due to the lowered gum line.

In order to determine a patient’s eligibility for LANAP®, Dr. Davis first conducts a comprehensive examination and reviews all treatment options and their accompanying pros and cons. Dr. Davis bases his recommendation on the unique needs of each individual. In some cases, patients may be medically compromised and their primary care physician has advised against invasive surgery that would require them to discontinue medications like blood thinners. Some patients have multiple units of crown and bridgework and do not want to risk exposing the crown margins with the recession most often associated with flap and osseous surgery. For others, the issue might be the fear of pain surrounding an invasive procedure like traditional osseous surgery. Dr. Davis takes all these concerns into consideration when evaluating a patient’s candidacy for laser gum surgery.

As periodontal disease reaches epidemic proportions in the United States and increasingly more evidence reveals a correlation between periodontitis and systemic diseases like heart disease, stroke, and diabetes, patient education is more critical than ever before. Periodontal therapy not only improves gingival health, but can improve the patient’s systemic health.

According to Dr. Davis, dental professionals need to be prepared to address patient concerns and provide them with information about all the treatment options available, including laser gum surgery.

Clinical research supporting the benefits of laser gum surgery and the LANAP® protocol continues to mount. Although each patient is different, Dr. Davis has found that his results confirm the findings in Dr. Marc Nevins’s study, A Prospective 9-Month Human Clinical Evaluation of Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP) Therapy, which reported evidence of bone regeneration and new connective attachment after six months utilizing the LANAP® protocol.

Shu Cosmetic Surgery Announces New Liposonix Non-Invasive Fat Reduction Treatment

Saturday, December 6th, 2014

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) November 25, 2014

Shu Cosmetic Surgery is now offering Liposonix treatments, the latest in non-invasive fat reduction technology. Liposonix uses high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) energy to permanently destroy targeted fat cells without surgery.

“Liposonix is a revolutionary non-surgical solution for people who are close to their ideal shape, but have stubborn areas of fat that just won’t go away no matter how much they exercise or diet,” says Dr. Shu. “The procedure takes about one hour and, while individual results can vary, patients typically achieve a waistline reduction of approximately one inch (equivalent to one pant or dress size) within 8-12 weeks after receiving a single treatment.”

The Liposonix system technology works by focusing ultrasound energy below the surface of the skin in order to melt only targeted fat tissue – similar to how light from the sun can be focused with a magnifying glass. The treated fat tissue is removed through the body’s natural healing process, leaving the patient with a thinner, more contoured waistline.

During the treatment, patient may experience some discomfort, prickling, tingling or warmth. After treatment, patients may experience temporary mild redness, minimal bruising, and swelling. There is no special post-care or special diet or exercise program required in order to achieve results. Patients typically resume normal activities immediately after the Liposonix procedure. Liposonix is not intended for those that are pregnant. It is also not recommended for those who cannot “pinch an inch”.

“Our patients are very happy with Liposonix because it delivers results without the risks typically associated with surgical fat reduction procedures. It is not liposuction, or a replacement for a healthy lifestyle and exercise; but it is a quick, easy way to help patients slim that last inch and hit their personal shape goals,” stated Dr. Shu.

Local Plastic Surgeon Laura Sudarsky, Partner In EssE Plastic Surgery, Donates Surgical Skills To Needy Guatemalan Children

Friday, November 14th, 2014

Fort Lauderdale, Florida (PRWEB) November 07, 2014

Board-certified plastic surgeon Laura A. Sudarsky will donate her surgical skills in the Medical Missions Program for Healing the Children Florida (HTC), a not-for-profit organization dedicated since 1982 to providing volunteer life altering healthcare to children in need in developing countries.

Dr. Sudarsky, the only female plastic surgeon currently participating in the program, will travel on November 15th from Fort Lauderdale to Guatemala, where much of the population lives in poverty. During a five day stay she is expected to operate on 30 to 40 children at Hospital Nacional De Amatitlan, a government facility founded in 1862. Common procedures include craniofacial conditions, e.g., cleft lip and palate. These birth defects hamper babies during breast feeding and can result in ear infections and speech defects if untreated. Their cause is unknown. Other procedures include reconstructive burn and syndactyly surgeries (where two or more digits are growing together). Many families cook outdoors, and the children suffer burns from the flames. Fabrics are often not flame retardant, and clothes catch on fire.

Dr Sudarsky has been travelling with HTC for 20 years, and has operated on more than 2500 children during her medical missions abroad. She has served as the Director of Plastic Surgery for HTC and as a Team Leader for many years.

“The satisfaction of returning a child back to their parents’ arms after a life altering surgery is indescribable,“ states Sudarsky.

Many children with medical problems in developing nations live out their lives in a severely limited fashion or do not survive. HTC has provided first class medical care to more than 191,572 children in 100 plus countries, including the United States. Donated in-kind services provided by volunteers in 2013 totalled $ 960,375.00.

Fluent in English, French and Spanish, Dr Sudarsky has long been dedicated to “giving back” by working with underserved groups of women and children. She has been recognized by Operation Smile and Healing the Children for her multilingual clinics in impoverished countries, and she is the recipient of multiple humanitarian awards including a Certificate of Special Recognition from the United States Congress. Her travels with HTC have taken her as far as Afghanistan and Bangladesh where she worked with acid burn victims and Colombia during the height of guerilla warfare.

Dr. Sudarsky had been Chief of Plastic Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital, New York. For many years she has been involved in research and innovation in the field in breast surgery. A pioneer in transumbilical breast augmentation (TUBA), she published a series in the Annals of Plastic Surgery. She taught the procedure to colleagues and continues to develop and refine new techniques. She has presented in national conferences and published in surgery journals. Trained in cosmetic/reconstructive breast surgery, she is also one of a small group of physicians to be board certified in wound care.

Dr. Sudarsky and Dr. Tracey H. Stokes recently announced the opening of ESSE, a joint practice focusing on aesthetic surgery of the face, breast and body, located at 6333 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308; (954) 533-1671. According to some estimates, only one in nine plastic surgeons in the U.S. are women, suggesting that male surgeons handle the vast majority of cosmetic procedures.
